Data Center Engineer – Windows Infrastructure

Candidates must be able to work onsite at Chicago-area data center locations, including O’Hare and Midway. This is not a remote position.
We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Engineer with strong Windows Server experience, familiarity with Dell spine-and-leaf networks, structured cabling expertise, and the ability to coordinate work across technical teams. This role supports enterprise data center operations, including server hardware, physical connectivity, incident response, documentation, process improvement, and stakeholder communication.
What You’ll Do
Rack, stack, cable, test, maintain, and decommission servers, switches, storage systems, and related data center equipment.
Troubleshoot hardware, connectivity, and Windows Server issues; replace failed components, coordinate RMAs, and support incident resolution.
Install, route, dress, label, test, and document copper, Ethernet, and fiber cabling to data center standards.
Support Windows Server environments, including Windows Server 2022 configuration, monitoring, patch coordination, and escalation.
Maintain accurate documentation of assets, cabling, tickets, changes, and procedures using DCIM, CMDB, ticketing, or related systems.
Coordinate work with infrastructure, network, vendor, business, and management teams to support priorities, maintenance windows, and service delivery.
Contribute to process improvement, procedure development, task tracking, and consistent operational execution.
What We’re Looking For
3+ years of hands-on enterprise data center operations experience.
Strong Windows Server support experience, including Windows Server 2022.
Experience with physical server support, rack-and-stack work, structured cabling, and break/fix troubleshooting.
Familiarity with Dell spine-and-leaf network environments, rack-level connectivity, switch cabling, and coordination with network engineers.
Working knowledge of Layer 2/3 networking, SAN/NAS storage, VMware, backup agents, and enterprise troubleshooting tools.
Ability to follow change-control, incident-management, escalation, and maintenance-window procedures.
Strong communication, customer service, documentation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Process and people coordination experience, including task prioritization, stakeholder updates, vendor coordination, and team follow-through.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft, Azure, AWS, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Dell networking, or equivalent hands-on infrastructure experience.
Linux/Red Hat exposure and ability to collaborate with Linux administrators.
Experience with SAN, NAS, NFS, SMB, VMware, backup software, and enterprise storage connectivity.
Server memory, capacity, and performance management experience.
Additional Requirements
Ability to lift and move data center equipment, typically up to 30–50 lbs.
· Availability for on-call incidents and occasional driving as required.
· Must be able to pass a TSA background check.
Job Details
Pay: $140,000–$160,000 annually, negotiable, plus benefits
Location: Chicago, IL – 8420 W. Bryn Mawr, O’Hare, and Midway locations
Work Arrangement: Onsite; this is not a remote position.
